I spent my first night in Hawaii sleeping on our southern concourse lanai. Yes, that's right, we have more than one lanai! Sitting outside at the end of the day was so peaceful and nice, that it seemed wrong to pack it all inside. So, instead I packed a roll-out, a couple blankets and pillows outdoors, and slept underneath the stars (hundreds of them!).
The only things I can complain about are that it was a bit chilly (but no more than when you kick accidently kick the blankets off your bed at home) and a bit noisy (wind in the palm trees and waves crashing on the shore are awfully loud).
The view when the dawn breaks: priceless.
